Rugs are a great way to ground a space within your home (and outside!). In this post, we go through the different types of rugs out there and what are the pros and cons of each selection.

Wool Rugs

Pros: Durable, naturally stain-resistant, soft and comfortable, good insulator, flame-resistant.

Cons: Can be more expensive, may shed initially, and may require professional cleaning.

Cotton Rugs

Pros: Affordable, soft, easy to clean, lightweight, available in various colors and patterns.

Cons: Less durable than wool, may fade over time, and not as resistant to stains.

Synthetic Rugs (e.g., Polypropylene, Nylon)

Pros: Affordable, durable, resistant to stains and fading, easy to clean, often suitable for high-traffic areas.

Cons: May not have the same natural feel as wool, can be less environmentally friendly.

Silk Rugs

Pros: Luxurious appearance, soft and smooth texture, vibrant colors.

Jute and Sisal Rugs

White Pine:

Pros: Soft, flexible needles; very light in weight; less likely to shed needles; less fragrance for those who are sensitive to scents.

Cons: Less suitable for heavy ornaments; may not have the classic Christmas tree shape.

Blue Spruce:

Norway Spruce:

Concolor Fir (White Fir):

Fun Fact: The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is typically a Norway Spruce (Picea abies) or occasionally a closely related variety. The Norway Spruce is a popular choice because of its classic Christmas tree shape and its ability to withstand the logistical challenges of being transported to and displayed in the heart of New York City.
